INTRODUCTION
Lester Vaughan School (LVS), established in 1997, is a public co-educational secondary institution located in Cane Garden, St. Thomas. The first staff and students of the school were those of the former St. Leonard's Girls' School which was closed in 1997. In addition, a complement of boys was admitted to the school in the first form thus making it a co-educational institution. It caters to students aged 11 to 17 and seeks to help students improve their intellectual and physical prowess. The school was previously known as St. Thomas Secondary School. On January 8, 1999, it was officially opened and renamed Lester Vaughan School after well-known musician and writer of the Barbados National Pledge, Mr Lester Vaughan. The spacious campus is located at Cane Garden, St. Thomas, and has a panoramic view of the southern part of the island. The compound is kept cool all year by refreshing winds and is ideal for studying and learning.
The school has a well-trained team of 70 teachers and 35 support staff members with a total enrollment of approximately 954 students. Mr Anthony Alleyne serves as the school's principal, while Mrs Suzette Holder serves as the deputy principal (Ag.)
